Thank you Ms. Sinclair for going to the Guthrie family for your latest installment of space opera romance. More interpersonal action than Hope's Folly which is like reading a David Weber military space novel that has me mentally keeping track of wrenches, cables, who is in dock for refit, tactical spacial chess matches, this was a MUCH smoother, silkier read without the sex every 3 pages that seems to permeate today's vampire romance novels or even the regencies that start off with everyone naked and in bed. It has the romance. It has the sex. It has the space battles. It has the twists and turns that you got from her first 2 books in the A-B/Dock Five universe. Linnea Sinclair has a unique voice and it fills a niche that is so void of others like her that it begs for more authors. Rebels and Lovers has a strong female heroine who is equal to her partner. There is no mismatch here. They are equals. The addition of Trip the grandson to the story, the meet up with Phillip at the end, all tells me that if she wants to write a story about the A-B universe and Dock Five with the Stols, there's a HUGE amount that can be plumbed for creative purposes. Someone asked if this was the same writer and I would counter this is the same writer who has a better editor - making the story flow fast and neat. You cannot write the same story over and over and over about Chaz and Sully. This is a space opera that Linnea Sinclair is writing and each book is a piece of that universe. Two years have passed since information technology guru Devin Guthrie last saw his beloved Captain Makaiden "Kaidee" Griggs, a widow. Although her being his family yacht pilot makes her unacceptable as his wife because Devin would have to defy J.M. his powerful father and CEO of Guthrie Global Systems. Devin also knows he still loves her.
He is unhappy when his martinet father orders him to marry into another prominent family as damage control. Devin's older brother former admiral Philip defected to the Alliance (see Hope's Folly) and is openly rebelling against J.M. and the Empire. However, when Devin's nineteen years old nephew Trip vanishes, Devin investigates hoping to find the teen before he is hurt. Devin learns the lad's bodyguard was murdered and Trip barely escaped. He follows his fleeing relative to Dock Station Five where he encounters Kaidee and a perilous scenario in which apparently Empire and Alliance forces seek his nephew and him dead or alive.
Rebels and Lovers is a superb action-packed romantic suspense science fiction thriller. The taut story line never slows down from the moment Devin tastes a bit of freedom and adventure in his desperate pursuit to bring his nephew home safe. Readers will appreciate Linnea Sinclair's strong entry as the dangerous suspense thriller starring a strong lead couple makes for an astounding tale.

REBELS AND LOVERS released yesterday and I stayed up to finish it, because once I start, I can't put a Sinclair book down. This latest installment in her Dock Five series did not disappoint. It doesn't matter if like or don't like science fiction romance, because this is just plain, good storytelling.
You can read this book as a stand alone, but I think it adds to the fun to be "in the know" from reading the other books. The worlds, the characters, are fully realized and just plain fun. I did NOT figure out who was doing it either.

I don't like to risk spoilers or even waste time on details. I read too much--almost 1,000 in the past 3 years on my KIndle. Unless I find a truly outstanding author and book, you won't hear from me. This book and this author are outstanding. Read and enjoy.
I don't think this is one of Sinclair's best stories. It is well written and a novel premise. Just not my cup of tea.
I'm so sad to give this such a low score because I LOVED Games of Command, and I think Linnea is a very talented author.
I felt the plot on this one was too plodding and dense. I wanted to see more heated interaction between the main characters (not sex scenes, just chemistry.) I thought Devin and Kaidee were very well developed, but there were too many extraneous details in the story to keep my attention. I just got kind of lost in the plot, and not in a good way.
Can't recommend this one, unfortunately.
